VERSTEINERT was created through the manipulation of digital photographs using Photoshop in an attempt to replicate traditional photographic decay through time. The series features portraits with the faces of the subjects intentionally removed and substituted with concrete, stone walls, gears and other artificial materials patterns.
The goal of the series was to evoke a sense of fossilization and memory distortion. I wanted to create a fictional world that feels both ancient and alien, like damaged photos from a distant past. This approach hints at how memories can fade and distort over time, casting familiar faces into a setting that feels both distant and unsettling. The absence of facial features emphasizes the idea of memories slipping away, leaving behind only a vague, haunting presence.
